Aucafada lagoon. Delta del Ebro Nature Park (nformation in pdf)
Delta Lagoon

Serveis The Ebro delta is the most important wetland area of the Iberian peninsula's Mediterranean coast and one of Europe's finest. Its landscapes of endless views are home to a unique mixture of rice paddies, lagoons, immense beaches and dunes, and are partially protected by the Ebro delta nature park.

Arbre One of the largest and richest coastal lagoons of the delta is Aufacada. This lagoon and its surrounding marshes are situated near an old estuary of the Ebro (Gola de Migjorn) and is one of those with the highest ecological value,
despite having suffered over recent years with the transformation of the area into rice paddies.

Flora It is home to a variety of environments and plant communities that vary with the salinity and depth of the water and its proximity to the sea: reed beds, jonquils, salicornias and dune vegetation.

Fauna As with all marshes, birds are the most visible and striking fauna. Aufacada shelters some of the most important colonies of water birds in the Delta and indeed the entire Peninsula. Species include ardeids, such as the squacco and purple herons, the colourful purple gallinule, the red-crested pochard or the graceful whiskered and black terns. The winter brings many water birds to the area. There are also numerous species of fish, such as the endemic Valencia toothcarp and the Spanish toothcarp, amphibians, dragon flies, and many others.

recomenancions This purchase was made to recover and restore a sector that had been converted into a rice paddy, to reduce and limit hunting and fishing, and to welcome visitors with observatories and itineraries.
The area is managed in collaboration with the Ebro Delta nature park and SEO/Birdlife.
