Year bought: 2007 Area: 2.67 ha Location: Ulldecona (Montsià). Part of the "Secans del Montsià" Nature Network 2000 area. Initial description: In El Montsià in general, and at Ulldecona in particular, there is the largest collection of ancient olive trees in Catalonia. Ulldecona Town Council and Caixa Catalunya Social Work drew up a Management Plan which is designed to preserve them. As this Plan proposed, it was bought a small area of land on which stand some twenty of these trees. The olive trees and the context in which they are to be found, made up as it is of huts and dry stone walls, provide the finishing touches to a landscape which has existed for almost 20 centuries.
