Areas owned     Mont-rebei Gorge  >> Wildlife Refuge   The Mont-rebei canyon has been declared Wildlife Refuge   The Official Bulletin of the Generalitat of Catalonia of 14 April has published an Order from the Department of the Environment and Housing which declares the Mont-rebei Canyon a wildlife refuge, covering an area of some 445 hectares in the municipality of Sant Esteve de la Sarga (Pallars Jussà). This protection order is envisaged in article 37 of Act 3/1988, of 4 March concerning the protection of animals and areas of wildlife conservation in which hunting is prohibited, unless the Directorate General of the Environment of the Generalitat of Catalonia authorises it for biological or scientific reasons. This declaration will make it easier to improve the natural elements of the area through environmental restoration, research and discovery. Furthermore, the large number of visitors that the area receives made it inappropriate for this estate to continue being a private hunting zone.
